The Purpose of this Blog

“Dads across the country are beginning to recognize how important it is that we take our role seriously and thus gladly take responsibility for the good and the bad that occurs in our family unit and to those under our care through business or ministry.  “

The Raison D’etre of Steadfast Fatherhood

Steadfast Fatherhood…A weighty title for a blog site.  As a new father, the name of this blog reflects my desire to be steadfast in the way I lead my family and how I engage in my community.  Our world provides many distractions and temptations to forgo our responsibilities as dads.  This world, whether directly or indirectly, tends to divide and isolate us.  This blog is an attempt to cultivate a community of dads by providing them valuable resources in their mission of fatherhood.

Often times, I find myself in a culture that wants to diminish the role of the father in a family.  A culture that seeks to divide husband from wife and estrange children from their parents.   A culture that does not have a compelling vision of what it means to be a man, much less a man with a family.

But something is happening.  Many parents and fathers more specifically are noticing the weaknesses in our institutions.  Public education, entertainment, broadcast news and big tech have seemingly bought into a narrative that belittles the fundamental building block of a healthy society: The Family.  A husband, a wife, and their children.  While circumstances can thwart this ideal, it is still an ideal worth striving for.  Dads across the country are beginning to recognize how important it is that we take our role seriously and thus gladly take responsibility for the good and the bad that occurs in our family unit and to those under our care through business or ministry.

While culture peddles comfort and immediate gratification, true fulfillment comes from assuming a sacrificial role in your given situation.  For a family unit, the household needs a foundational objective morality found in the Christian scriptures that is good for both individual and corporate wisdom.

I’m not a social media guy.  I have less than 200 followers on my personal Instagram and post something every year or so.  Publicly sharing my thoughts and life is not particularly appealing.  So why start this blog?  Well, having a child really does change everything.  When my son was born, I realized I needed a resource in my fatherhood journey that will help equip me to intentionally lead my family and cultivate a household of joy, gladness, wisdom and love.  A counter-cultural household.

So, I’m building something that I need.  Something to help tease out my own thoughts and ideas on faith and fatherhood to make those ideas more concrete and to make them available to other dads for refinement and testing.  I’m building a resource to forge counter-cultural families through masculine wisdom.
